Time Off For Shopping

(Special Crspdt. N.Z.PA) SYDNEY, June 27. Nearly 4000 shop assistants at three Sydney department stores are to get one morning off each week to do their own shopping. With Sydney shops open every Saturday morning until noon, assistants worked a full five and a half day week and found it difficult to shop, except in their lunch breaks, said the company involved, David Jones, Ltd. • Under the system, which began a month’s trial last week, staff will work longer hours each day but will be given one morning off each week to compensate. Their total weekly hours will remain the same. No other companies have indicated that they will introduce a similar system, but the David Jones experiment will be closely watched.
