GILLIN SORE
May Not Race Again “The Press’’ Special Service PALMERSTON NORTH. “It looks as if this could have been Gillin’s last race,” said the chestnut’s part-own-er, Mr F. Campbell, after the Winter Handicap at Hastings on Saturday. Gillin, not long returned after a breakdown, was nodding badly after the race and, after walking for half an hour he was still so sore that that further racing seems a forlorn hope. “His career has been one big worry,” said Mr Campbell, whose biggest thrills came from Gillin’s successes in the C.J.C. Winter Cup and the T. H. Lowry Memorial Handicap at Hastings. For the next week Gillin will be watched closely by his trainer, D. Jones, who is unlikely to set the horse a further preparation unless rapid and substantial improvement is seen.
