RANGERS IN QUICKLY
Hawks Soundly Beaten Rangers opened the third round of the Christchurch .Cup ice hockey aeries by soundiy beating Hawks by 10 goats to five in a match played at the Indoor Ice Rink last night. Hawks had the best of the play for most of the match and did most of the attacking, but they gave Rangers a lot of chances by bad handling in the defence zone. The Rangers forwards were fast, and made the most of every opportunity and scored at least half of their goals by snapping up the loose puck from poor passing and mtsundenMandilngs by the Hawks defence. Hawks scored first, but Rangers quickly overtook them and finished the first period two goals up. Hawks opened the scoring at the start of the second period, but again they made a lot of mistakes and let Rangers through to score another four goals. Hawks came to Ufa in the final period and launched attack after attack on the Rangers net; and it was only the exceiient net minding of L. Smith that prevented them from catching up, and possibly going Into the lead. Hawks scored twice, but Rangers added another three mainly by quick breaks that caught Hawks with most of their men at the wrong end of the rink. Scorers were:—Rangers: B. Dando 3, D. Fisher 2. M. Cotter 2, S. Pluck, R. Cooper, D. JuryHawks: N. Hole 2. C. Robinson, B. Irons. M. Wickes.
Referees: Messrs H. van der Veiden and J. BrizzeH.
