KAITAWA FUND

Total About £35,000 (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, June 27. Although individual appeals would close on Thursday, the Kaitawa relief fund would be kept open for some time, the Mayor of Auckland (Dr. R. G. McElroy) said today. After Thursday donations should be sent direct to the Auckland District Public Trustee, he said. Dr. McElroy estimated that the total amount in the fund from all sources was now about £35,000. “This is a magnificent effort. I would like to thank all individuals and organisations for their quick response to this worthy appeal. “It should be remembered, however, that about £6OOO has already been spent on immediate • relief through the Shipwreck Relief Society.

“When it is realised that the fund will be required to care for the needs of some 33 small children, the fund is not all that large so that more donations will always be welcome.”
