Lyttelton Candidate
Mr C. P. A. de Latour, a 42-year-old farm manager, and chairman of the Akaroa County Council, was selected last evening as the National Party’s candidate for the Lyttelton electorate at the general election. The other nominees for the candidacy were Mr I. G. B. Wilson, National candidate for Riccarton at Hie last general election, and Mr T. D. J. Holderness, chairman of the Lincoln College Board. Mr de Latour was chosen in a secret preferential ballot after he and the other nominees had addressed and answered questions from 150 delegates from party branches in the electorate. Married, with three children, Mr de Latour lives at Lavericks Bay, and is manager of a large sheep and cattle pronerty. He was educated at Hamilton High School, and, after serving overseas in the Second World War with the Royal New Zealand Air Force, studied at Lincoln College. He has been a member of the Akaroa County Council for 12 years, for seven of which he has been chairman. He is also a member of the No. 14 Roads Council, the Canterbury Licensing Committee, Ward 11 of the Counties' Association, and an executive member of the Christchurch F.mnire Games promotion committee. Mr de Latour has represented Banks Peninsula at -ricket and talks a keen interest in sport. For many years he has been a keen worker for the party.
