Inspection Of Factories Tours of the country by politicians would help to formulate future policy, said the president of the Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association (Mr C. W. Mace) yesterday.
He was welcoming six members of Parliament at informal discussions last evening organised by the association.
The members of Parliament were Messrs H. J. Walker, H. V. Donald, G. G. Grieve, H. R. Lapwood and H. L. Pickering. The Under-Secretary of Finance (Mr Muldoon), who accompanied the members on their Christchurch visit, was unable to attend the discussions.
Yesterday the party visited Mace Engineering Company, Ltd, and P.D.L. Industries, Ltd. This morning before returning to Wellington they will inspect the factory of Lane Walker Rudkin, Ltd. At last evening’s discussions, the South Island manager of Air New Zealand (Mr A. Gillmore) was presented with a farewell travel rug by Mr Mace. Mr Gillmore will leave Christchurch shortly to take up the post of manager in North America for Air New Zealand.
