Nasution Affirms Indonesian Stand
(N.Z.P.A. Reuter—Copyright) DJAKARTA, June 27. Indonesia has not changed course from her policy of anti-imperialism, General Abdul Haris Nasution, deputy Chief of the powerful Kogan (crush Malaysia command), declared last night.
Addressing the People’s Consultative Congress in Djakarta during the last session of general debate, the general said that rumours that Indonesia now favours imperialism were spread by both oldstyle and new-style "necolim” —neo-colonialists and imperialists. But Indonesia had not changed course, he said. Peking Radio and the Chinese press have accused the new Indonesian Government of Right-wing leanings. President Sukarno’s policies and his explanation of them last Wednesday have been strongly criticised by many of the 69 Congress speakers. But two high-ranking officers supported the President last night. Brigadier-General Abdul
Rahman, a member of the armed forces functional group, said the President’s account was in fact a really responsible progress report.
Many speakers have claimed that it was not a progress report at all as the President failed to mention such major items as last October’s abortive Communist coup and the hand-over of power to the Army strongman, LieutenantGeneral Suharto.
