Elmwood Plans For One-Act Season
Three one-act plays will be presented by the Elmwood players at the Elmwood Playhouse, Fulton avenue, from July 19 to 23. “Salome,” by Oscar Wilde, will be produced by Alex Henderson, with Helen O’Grady in the title role, Keith Cooke as King Herod, Betty King as Herodias, and Brian Deavoll as the prophet, Jokanaan. Others in the cast include Mike Lynch, Mandy Weekes, Kevin Beaumont, Peter Ormsby, Hugh Thompson. Doug Finch, Nick Price, Jack Baird, Alison Alston, Jeanette Baxter, Ron Hawkins, Sue Stanley, Brian Marshall, Lilian Lawrie, Margaret Marshall, Kevin Altman, Sue Esterman, Julie Angus, Jim Hopkins, Paula Ryan, Noeline Calvert, Graham Loader, Rosalie Reed and Graham Newberry.
Helen Browning will produce Shaw’s “The Dark Lady of the Sonnets,” a tale of an indiscriminate affair of Shakespeare’s. Shakespeare will be played by Christopher Howell, with Sue Ryan as Queen Elizabeth, Glennis Paine as the Dark Lady, and Peter Livesly as the Beefeater.
The third play is “Elektra" by Brian Gallas, which will be produced by the author, with Judy Seollay in the title role. Klytemnestra is played by Chris Joyce, Orestes by Rodney Leonard, and Chrysothemis by Shirley Low. Others in the cast include Mary Harrison, Jill Lynch and Margaret Hempseed. All three plays will subsequently be entered in the British Drama League’s oneact play Festival.
