Thinking v. Computers

The Duke of Edinburgh today warned an international congress of scientists against making computers and scientific research an excuse to stop thinking or exercising judgment. “Policy decisions still have to be made by people for I eople,” he said, opening the third congress of the Internationa] Federation of Automatic Control.
The six-day congress, organised by the United Kingdom Automation Council, will cover automation and automatic control in theory and practice in industry. Delegates are from 30 countries.
Driver Charged. The driver of the passenger bus ’involved in a disastrous collision with a semi-trailer near the New South Wales border yesterday was released on bail last night after being charged with four counts of manslaughter and one of dangerous driving Melbourne, June 21.
