RANGERS WIN

A fast-skating, qulck-shoeting Rangers side caused an upset In the Christchurch Cup ice hockey series last night when it beat the favoured Wolves team by 9 goals to 5, played at the Indoor Ice Rink. There was not as much between th* team* the score indicated, but Rangers made much more use of their chances, and kept pressing all the time Wolves had their moments, but lacked punch around the oppos Ing net, and tended to let their attacks fade out. There was little between them at the end of the first period, Rangers with three goals and Wolves with two, and at the end of the second period Rangers had Increased their lead slightly to 5-3. In the last period, however, Ranger* attacked at every opportunity. and added another four goals to their tally with some fine stickwork. Wolves added another two finals to their score, but their ack of drive around the net caused them to miss goals that could have come with a little more effort. Scorers were: Wolves: B. Guy 2, J. Brlzzell, B. Rysz. S. Hurd Rangers: M. Cotter 3, J. Han nlng 2, B. Dando, R. Cooper, S. Pluck, D. Fisher.

Referees: Messrs B. Lester and H. van der Velden.
