BATTALION COMMAND

Major Latter Appointed Major E. G. Latter will take command of the 2nd Battalion, Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment, on July 1. At present second-in-command, Major Latter will succeed Lieutenant-Colonel R. W. K. Ainge, who is to attend a course at the Armed Services’ Staff College in North Virginia. On assinning command of the battalion Major Latter will be promoted to the rank of lieutenant-colonel. Major letter was born in 1928 at Kaikoura, and was educated at Christ’s College. He joined the Regular Army as a private at Blenheim in 1951 when he enlisted in the Nelson, Marlborough, West Coast Regiment After being commisioned in 1953 he served first as a company commander in the regiment, and later as its commanding officer. He was appointed second-in-command of the 2nd Battalion R.N.Z.1.R., in January, 1964. Major E. V. Braggins, a staff officer at the headquarters of the Southern Military District, will become second-in-command of the battalion on July 1.
