Town Team Wins Table Tennis
As expected, Town proved too strong for Country in the annual table tennis fixture held in Christchurch on Saturday, and won the A section contest, 26-2.
The only matches Town tost in the A section were two singles by Mrs D. Hodgson. Although several of the other matches went to the advantage game, Town was clearly superior. Town won the B section, 203, with the Country women winning five of their 12 matches, while Town’s junior team won 18-10. The only contest Country won was the junior girls’, where it triumphed 7-5 over a more highly rated combination. Results were:— j. E. Kyle beat K. Butler. 51-15, 21-17; beat S. Bennett, 51-18, 21-18. Edwards beat Loudon, 22-20, 21-17; beat Hewitt, 21-19, 21-14. Sanderson and Edward* beat Hewitt and Butter. 21-15. 21-18; beat Bennett and Loudon, 21-18, 21-16. Kyle and Maldnaon beat Bennett and Loudon, 21-16, 21-13; beat Hewitt and Butler, 21-13, 21-16. WOMEN Mrs J. Brisk beat Mrs J. Loudon, 21-17. 21-6: beat Miss M Mac Kay, 22-20, 17-21, 21-7. Mrs D. Hodgson lost to Miss Mac Kay, 23-25, 18-21; lost to Mrs Loudon 20- 19-21. Miss M. Row beat Mrs H. McCormick. 21-5, 21-9; beat Mrs M. Hantz, 21-11, 21-16. Miss J. Simmons beat Mrs Hantz, 21-17. 21-14: beat Mrs McCormick, 24-22, 21-16. Mrs Hodgson and Miss Simmons beat Mrs Hantz and Mrs McCormick, 21-18, 21-11; beat Miss Mac Kay and Mrs Loudon 8-21, 21-18, 22-20; Mrs Brisk and Mi-ss Row beat Miss Mac Kay and Mrs Loudon, 21-11, 21-18; beat Mrs Hantz and Mrs McCormick 23-21, 21-10.
