Table Tennis Trophy Lost By Canterbury

After five years in Canterbury, the quadrangular N. J. N. Rein table tennis trophy for competition among Canterbury, South Canterbury, Otago and Southland, has gone to Otago.

Otago beat Canterbury by' 61 matches to 53 at Invercargill during the week-end and showed its superiority by winning both the men’s and women’s sections.

J. Armstrong was not up to his best form, but rallied to almost beat B. A. Foster (Otago), who thrashed him, 21-6, 21-7, 21-13, only a week ago. Armstrong led 10-16 in the final game but a wonderful recovery shot by Foster saved the game. N. V. Brightwell was not in commanding form and C. W. C. Tilby showed glimpses of his true form without ever becoming a force. K. Ward did extremely Well for a player aged only 16.

Mrs T. May and Mrs J. Shadbolt both defeated the brilliant 15- Miss Y. Fogarty, of Otago. Miss M. Ward-Holmes had a particularly good win over the star junior player, Miss M. Fogarty.
