Increase In Price Of Nauru Phosphate

(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, June 2. The prices of Nauru phosphate and sulphur will rise substantially in the next few weeks.

The Minister of Agriculture (Mr Taiboys) told Parliament today that he was not in a position to say what prices the Phosphate Commission was likely to pay. “But, it is likely there will be a substantial increase.”

The Leader of the Opposition (Mr Kirk) asked what steps were needed to ensure the price of existing stocks of phosphate was not increased.

Mr Taiboys said any increase in the price of phosphates was granted after an inquiry by the Prices Tribunal. 1
