AIR FORCE IN FIJI

Colony’s Vote Of Thanks (N.Z. Press Association) SUVA, June 2. The Fiji Legislative Council today approved a motion saying it was conscious of the debt of gratitude owed by the colony to the R.N.Z.A.F , particularly to No. 5 Maritime Squadron. The council also approved the appointment of a select committee to recommend what action should be taken to recognise the assistance given to the people of Fiji.

The motion was introduced by Mr J. A. Moore, who said that apart from the defence role, the presence of the R.N.Z.A.F. had greatly assisted the colony economically, socially and in sport. He spoke particularly of the Sunderland squadron’s air-sea rescue and mercy missions. The acting-Colonial Secretary (Mr J. S. Thomson) said the Government agreed with the motion and would co-op-erate with any committee appointed.
