KILLED HER CHILD

Woman To Be Sterilised

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) PHILADELPHIA, June 1. A 24-year-old woman, who pleaded guilty to killing one of her four illegitimate children by throwing the infant into a incinerator chute, agreed yesterday to be sterilised.

Francine Rutledge, with an I.Q. of 62 and a mental age of 12, agreed to the operation suggested by Judge Raymond Pace Alexander after her Attorneys explained the proposal. The Judge said: “This is a recommendation, not a compulsion . . . you ought to do it.”

Judge Alexander said he would consider reduction of an indeterminate sentence to the state correctional institute at Muncy to three years and a half after the operation.
