APPEAL FOR CARE

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, June 2.

Sixty more traffic patrols than there were on Queen’s Birthday last year will be on duty this week-end. The Commisioner of Transport (Mr R. J. Polaschek) said today that the number of uniformed traffic officers had been increased from 440 last year to 500. “Every uniformed and

auxiliary patrol officer of the department will be on duty throughout the whole weekend,” he said. Mr Polaschek appealed to motorists to drive with due regard for conditions and the volume of traffic.

“It is quite obvious from the number of road deaths last June that many motorists and pedestrians have not yet adjusted road habits to deteriorating weather."
