Sydenham Burglaries
A cheque for £l5OO, 10 sample dresses and £l2 in cash, from the premises of Selby and Company, Buchan street, was the biggest haul obtained in six burglaries committed in Sydenham on Tuesday night. Cigarettes and £4 in cash and £4 18s in cash were taken from other premises in the area. Nothing was stolen from two of the premises entered.
The theft of tools valued at £27 9s 6d from a construction site at the University of Canterbury at Ham, and £lO from a house in Vincent place, Opawa, were also reported to the police yesterday. The police yesterday arrested a youth, aged 19, on a charge of theft as a servant, and another youth, aged 17, on a charge of receiving. They will appear in the Magistrate's Court today.
