MARKET IN LONDON
j John Brown Slumps (Special Crspdt. N.Z P.A.) LONDON, June 2. The slump in the shares of John Brown, the Clydebank shipbuilding firm, has been the most dramatic event in stock markets here this week. After the board's forecast of a very substantial loss this year, share prices fell yesterday by 4s 3d to just above the year’s low level at 30s 6d. Cunand also slipped 6d on the none4oo-happy outlook statement from the directors. Otherwise, markets have been quiet and cautious, although the “Financial Times” notes no real deterioration of the firm undertone. The seamen’s strike continued to inhibit business, particularly in a very quiet giltedged market.
