FREE MILK IN SCHOOL
Aim To End
U.K. Scheme
(Special Crspdt. N.Z P A.) LONDON, June 2. Head teachers in Britain have called for an end to free milk in schools—except when it Is recommended by a doctor.
Mr F. C. Raggatt, who proposed the ban at the conference of the National Association of Head Teachers in Worthing, Sussex, said that free milk was necessary and desirable in the 1930’5, but the money—£l2 million a year —could now be put to better use.
“If al] the bottles used In one day’s free distribution were put end to end,” he said, “they would stretch for 600 miles?’
A card vote was taken and the resolution wag carried by 4165 to 2997. But the Minister of Education, Mr A. Crosland, will almost certainly reject the demand.
