VOTING HEAVY

De Valera In Lead IN.Z. Press Assn. —Copyright! DUBLIN, June 2. Short of an upset, 83-year-old Mr Eamon De Valera looked set for a second seven-year term today as votes were counted in the Irish Presidential elections. The sun shone in most parts of Ireland yesterday and the voting was heavier than ex-pected—6o-66 per cent, compared with 58.4 per cent in the 1959 election.

Although the Irish Presidency is mainly a ceremonial job, the election took on political overtones when Mr De Valera allowed his name to be put forward as candidate of Fianna Fail.
