The tug Champion at Aden will not be bought by toe Lyttelton Harbour Board because of the high fuel consumption and the harbourmaster (Captain A. R. Champion) and toe resident engineer (Mr A. 3. Charman) have gone on to Britain to investigate toe possible purchase of tugs at a cost not to exceed £lOO,OOO. The two officers saw toe Aden tug and found that it was sound and handled well, but the fuel consumption was very high and not satisaf ctory, the board was told yesterday. It was estimated that it would cost £lO,OOO for alterations on top of toe delivery cost, and on toe trials toe officers said they could not recommend toe purchase because of toe high fuel consumption.
