(N.Z. Press Association > AUCKLAND. The veteran Wingatui trainer, Mr D. P. Wilson, was named New Zealand racing personality of the year at the fifth annual racing writers’ dinner in the official stand at Ellerslie last night. The trophy which accompanies the award was presented to Mr Wilson by last year’s winner, Mr M. C. Conway.
The citation for the award said that Mr Wilson’s outstanding career as a leading trainer and owner-breeder for more than 50 years had been crowned by the achievements this season of the country’s top galloper, Palisade.
The citation paid tribute to Mr Wilson’s expert management, in spite of bad health, of Palisade.
