HILL HAS THE MONEY, TOO

(N.Z.P.A. Reuter—Copyright)

INDIANAPOLIS. The English racing driver, G. Hill, has been confirmed as winner of the Indianapolis “500” in official standings released by the time-keepers and scorers of the gruelling annual motor race.

And yesterday Hill collected 156,297 dollars as his share of the 691,304-dollar purse. The backers of J. Clark (Scotland), listed in second

place, had disputed the result, claiming ti’.it officials erred in recording the laps and that Clark had finished first. However, a check of the electric timing tapes confirmed that Hill had won, and Clark's backers later conceded that their pit crew had made an error in their scoring charts.

Hill’s winning prize was somewhat less than Clark, last year's winner, collected in 1965—166,621 dollars from a total purse of 628,399 dollars.
