U.N. Copper Talks
(N.Z.P.A -Reuter—Copyright I WASHINGTON. June 1. An international conference to consider plans to meet the world copper shortage and stabilise prices will be held under United Nations auspices in December, it was announced yesterday. Senator Mike Mansfield, the Democratic Party leader, who has for some time urged a world conference, released the news In making public a letter on the subject from President Johnson. The President’s letter said he had been concerned for some time about copper problems faced by the United States and the world. “In this connexion 1 have 'already directed the United States Government to make both immediate and longrange studies of copper under I the direction of the Council of Economic Advisers.”
