BUSIEST AIRPORT
Rongotai’s Claim
"The Pr«sj” Special Service WELLINGTON, May 31. If all aircraft movements were counted—internal and overseas commercial flights, local and aero club and the like—then the Christchurch Airport was the busier airport than Wellington’s, but, when it came down to business, Wellington was a long way ahead, said the manager at Rongotai (Mr J. W. Redstone) today, commenting on some figures cited by the manager at Harewood (Hr A. I. R. Jamieson). The Christchurch total of flying movements, including aero club training circuit touch-downs and take-offs, was 120,364 during the 12 months to the end of March. Wellington’s total was 90,031. That was one up for Christchurch. But when it came to passengers, mail and cargo, Wellington was well in advance, said Mr Redstone. The comparative figures for 12 months were:—
Airline passengers: Wellington 792,664, Christchurch, 578,000.
Cargo: Wellington 129,037,7701 b, Christchurch 26,799,872 lb.
Mail: Wellington 12,769,599 lb, Christchurch 7,253,8711 b. Commercial aircraft movements: Wellington 47,106, Christchurch 21,948. DKIMAL CONVERSIONS Decimal currency will be July, 1867. Recommended converrlon rates are as follows:
