ANOTHER FERRY

Suggestion To Minister (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 31. A third ship using a different type of diesel electric engines could join the Aramoana and her new sister ship the Aranui in the interisland ferry service, the general manager of the Railways Department (Mr A. T. Gandell) said today. Mr Gandell has just returned from a five-week visit to the United Kingdom.

He talked to British officials about the British Railways’ successful ferry service across the Channel. Mr Gandell spoke to the New Zealand Railways’ consultants on the idea of a third ferry. He will suggest to the Minister of Railways (Mr McAlpine) that the firm be asked to prepare a special report on the most suitable type of ship to meet future requirements.
