Prime Minister’s Message To I.C.W.
The following message from the Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) was presented by Mrs D. Grant, the president of the New Zealand National Council of Women, to the conference of the International Council of Women which opened yesterday in Teheran.
"On behalf of the Government of New Zealand and all our people I convey warmest greetings and very best wishes to all delegates at the triennial conference of the I.C.W.
“New Zealand has a traditional and sincere interest in promoting social legislation dealing with the health and welfare of women and their children, and has for many years recognised the special part and effectiveness of N.C.W. in New Zealand in giving expression to women’s point of view in this country
on matters with which the council had been engaged over many years past. “At your conference, you will no doubt be engaged on many discussions of the greatest significance in the world today—a world which faces many new problems in making still further but sure progress in formulating the rights of women and children everywhere. “New Zealand with its history of leadership in many of these fields will follow your deliberations with great interest and supports the conference in the tasks in which it is about to be engaged. “I am sure that as a result of your work in Teheran, all delegates will return to their respective countries and councils to work with fresh vigour and inspiration for the achievement of your aims,” said Mr Holyoake.
