SOFT-LANDING TEST.—The United States Space Agency’s Surveyor spacecraft descending under a balloon just before its own engines took control for a landing about 3.5 miles an hour on the southern New Mexico desert at Holloman Air Force base. The craft, which passed its first softlanding test, is designed for a similar landing on the moon.
