Darkness halted play in the decisive singles match of the European zone second round Davis Cup tie between Spain and Brazil on Monday. Edson Mandarino, of Brazil, was leading Juan Gisbert 7-5, 3-6. 9-11, 8-6, 5-4, in the fifth set with his own service to come when play had to be stopped.

Brazil drew level with Spain, the 1965 European zone champions, at 2-2 when Thomas Koch beat the Spanish star, Manuel Santana. 7-5, 6-1, 6-2.
