MEN’S TEAM STRONG

Table Tennis Tournev

A strong men's team has been chosen to represent the Canterbury Table Tennis Association in the quadrangular tournament for the Cox-Rad-ford Cup against Nelson, West Coast and Marlborough teams at Nelson on Saturday. However, the women's team has been greatly weakened because some of Canterbury’s leading players are not available.

Three of the top four men players in Canterbury have been selected by Messrs T. R. D. Flint, R. G. Hart and A. B. McCallum. The fourth. K. Ward, is the most promising junior in the association. J. Armstrong and V. N. Brightwell have every right to be considered the leading players in Canterbury while H. P. Holt has been in splendid form in recent weeks. The women’s team has been weakened by the absence of Mesdames T. May, M. J. Shadbolt and D. Hodgson who have filled the top places in the two open tournaments held in Christchurch so far this season. Teams are:—

Men. J. Armstrong (Eagles), N. V. Brightwell (Selwyn), H. P. Holt (Seiwyn), K. Ward (Avonside). Women.— M. Row (Linwood), M. Green (North Canterbury), B. Taylor (Linwood), C. Ives (Celtic). Mr B. T. Edwards has been appointed team manager.
