FEWER TRIES

FTHE rush of blood experix enced by most senior clubs in the first three rounds of the senior competion when they managed to score more tries than penalties has subsided quickly. In the fourth and fifth rounds there was the rather distressing situation when points scored from kicking far outnumbered those that came from tries. No excuses can be offered

for the situation that has arisen over the last two weeks. The grounds have remained firm, unusually so in fact; the new law designed to promote back play have not been removed from the law book. It is most unsatisfactory when over the last two weeks the 14 senior teams can average little more than a try a team.
