Grant For Study Of Sacred Music
Miss Ellen Armitage, who has just recieved a bachelor’s degree in music with second class honours from the University of Canterbury, has been awarded financial aid to further her studies in the United States.
She will be the first New Zealander to study sacred music at the College Union Theological Seminary, School of Sacred Music in New York. The ecumenical exchange and scholarship programme organised by the National Council of Churches, through the World Council, and the college are providing the aid. Miss Armitage will spend two years at the college, and hopes to obtain a master’s degree in sacred music. Her musical study has been general, but she has been an organist for some years. There are no facilities for training in a wider field of sacred music in New Zealand.
