TALKS ON DISPUTE
Federation Accepts fiv.z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 8. The Federation <« Labour on Friday accepted an invitation from the Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) to discuss the Tomgariro dispute in an effort to reach settlement. The national executive’s decision to accept the invitation was unanimously endorsed by the conference on the motion of the president (Mr T. E. Skinner). Mr Skinner said the Government had decided that the F.OX>. national executive could go and speak to it. This could have been decided days or weeks ago, but it was a decision which was up to the Government alone in the dispute created by the Government’s attempt to limit negotiations. The New Zealand Workers’ Union had given the F.O.L. an assurance that it would work within the policy of the federation at Tongariro until this matter had been settled by the F.0.L., he said. The F.O.L. was, and always had been, ready to discuss and negotiate when the welfare of members was concerned. “We have never closed the door on negotiation,” he said.
