DESIGNS OF NOTES
Govt. Seeks Early Issue <NZ. Press Association) AUCKLAND, May 8. “As far as the Government Is concerned, the designs of the new decimal currency notes can be shown to the public as soon as they are ready.” the Under-Secretary to the Minister of Finance (Mr Muldoon) said tonight. “The Government has no objection to these designs being released as soon as they are in condition to be reproduced photographically,” he said. "And it has asked the Reserve Bank to see if this ean be done.” Mr Muldoon said that the Reserve Bank, which had full responsibility for the issue, felt that an early release would lead to dangers of forgery and counterfeiting before the notes went into circulation. “My own view is that this danger is so slight that I would be prepared to recommend that any losses be met out of the Decimal Currency Account to satisfy the obvious wish of ths public to see the designs as soon as possible,” Mr Muldoon said.
