The Conservator of Forests, Hokitika, invites written tenders for the purchase of an annual supply of timber for 20 years from State Forest No. 31 and/or other State Forests in the locality. 2. The timber under offer is an annual supply of 299,600 cubic feet of podocarp spec- : les, of which a maximum of 272,400 cubic feet may be ; sawn. 3. Initially tenders are invlt- ! ed for Sawmilliqg Area 888, which is situated in Block I, Hohonu Survey District and contains 287,600 cubic feet, approximately 94 per cent being Rimu and Miro. 4. The upset prices are:— ( Rimu/Miro: 10.2 d per cubic foot. Matai: 10.5 d per cubic foot. Totara: IO.Od per cubic foot. Kahikatea: 8.3 d per cubic foot Hinau: 3.4 d per cubic foot. 5. Tenderers must state the price per cubic foot they are prepared to pay for each species and the prices tendered will be taken into account in valuing subseqent areas. 6. Tenders will be considered only from existing Sawmill- i ing companies prepared to undertake, on a continuing basis, processing and remanufacture in Westland of a minimum of 80 per cent of the rough sawn timber : produced from each sale area. ' 7. Preference will be given to ; tenders from sawmillers prepared to enter into a group . agreement with other sawmillers to supply a minimum of 80 per cent of the ; output of rough sawn timber to a central processing plant i in Westland and prepared to develop improved conversion practices in bush and : mill. 8. The commencing date of the ! 20 year period of the sale will be Ist August 1966. Should the successful tend- ■ erer be an operator established in State Forest the timber remaining on his current licence, at the sale commencement date will become part of the 20 year quantity but will be charged , for at existing rates. The timber offered in Sawmill- , ing Area 888 may be subject to revaluation at the expir- , Ing of a current licence. 9. Upon completion of cutting in Sawmill area 888 further quantities of timber will be sold at Forest Service valuation. Revaluation of timber supplied will be made at Intervals of not more than two years. 10. The successful tenderer will be required to form and maintain any roading required. 11. The successful tenderer may be required to clearfell all residual cover remaining after logging. 12. The Conservator reserves the right to supply logs In lieu 1 of standing trees not sooner than 3 years from sale commencement date. 13. The successful tenderer will be required to offer for sale to a South Island manufacturer of plywood or veneer a minimum quantity of peeler grade logs, such quantity will be specified in each licence. The quantity from SawmUl Area 888 being 10 per cent. 14. Tenders must be In sealed envelopes addressed to the Conservator of Forests, Hokitika, and marked “Tender for 5.A.888.” Each tender must be accompanied by a marked or bank cheque to realise the sum of £250 and the successful tenderer will be required to lodge a further deposit with the Conservator of Forests as security against default in making payment or default on observing any of ths terms and conditions. 15.
