LARGE SUM FOUND
Discovery At Sockburn More than £l2OO was found buried on the property of G. B. Powell and Company, Ltd., 121 Main South road, Sockburn, on Saturday. It was found by Mr M. L. Kirton, of 18 Godley avenue, who was cleaning up the property with a front-end loader. About 7.45 a.m. Mr Kirton saw what he thought were two rolls of paper sticking out of the ground, and found £2OO in notes. He told bis employer, who advised him to inform the police. About 5.45 p.m. Mr Kirton was sifting through the soil when he came upon more bundles of notes, of more than £lOOO. There was broken glass in ‘ the area, and it is presumed 1 that the money had been ’ buried in a glass jar. The ' money was in £lO, £5, H, and 10s notes. ’ The exact amount has not been disclosed by the police.
