DAMAGE TO CARS
Complaint By Dealers fN.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 8. Complaints about accidental damage, vandalism and theft suffered by new built-up cars on the way from the North to the South Island have been made by the Wellington motor dealers. The secretary of the New Zealand Retail Motor Trade Association (Mr C. F. Stone) said the difficulties of delivery of cars from the North to the South island had concerned the industry for many years. There was trouble, first, in getting the cars there, because of inadequate space in the vessels and in coastal cargo ships—a couple of months ago the backlog had built up tn 500 cars. Then there was the damage they suffered in transit. He said he doubted if the new vehicular ferries would help much. They would generally be filled with passengers’ cars. Cars in the ferries were safe from damage, however.
