SPACE ON ARAMOANA
Rationing Of Goods (N.Z. Press Association) TIMARU, May 8. “Drastic rationing” of space on the Aramoana for waggon loads of goods from the South Island will be undertaken by the Railways Department over the next few weeks, according to a release by the chief stationmaster at Timaru, Mr J. W. C. Blair. Mr Blair said the rationing would remain in effect until the Aramoana was joined by the new roll-on, roll-off ferry Aramid about the end of June. "The department is farced reluctantly to ration space,” said Mr Blair. “Seasonal traffic, such as potatoes and grain, together with the rising popularity of the Aramoana for ordinary goods, has made this action necessary.”
