PERFORMING DOG

Disney Offers Contract

A dog offered a contract by Walt Disney is in Christchurch for the school holidays. His name is Mac and he is owned by Mr N. C. McPherson, of Taihape. Mr McPherson said the offer was made by a travelling agent for Walt Disney and he was undecided whether to accept it Recent ill-health had made him reconsider and it was likely that he would take the dog to America. Mac’s best tricks are walking up and down a ladder, backwards or forwards, while he is blndfolded; walking a tight-rope 6ft 6in above the ground and rolling a barrel along two iron pipes more than 6ft above the ground. When a blanket is put half over Mac, Mr McPherson asks him if he is cold, the dog nods, and when told to do so, reaches down and pulls the rest of the blanket over him. He says his prayers, does the shopping, walks on his hind legs and takes the baby for a ride in a pram.

Mac was one of a litter of eight pups, said Mr McPherson. The others had all been taken away, but somehow Mac was left behind. He decided to raise him himself and was surprised at the quick way the dog learnt tricks.
