Bluff To Cape
The Auckland runner, J. Young arrived at Cape Reinga at 2.40 p.m. on Thursday, four weeks and three days and 1335 miles out of Bluff. He thus became the first man to run the length of New Zealand. Young reached the cape from Te Kao, 29 miles away, after taking time out for lunch at Te Paki, the most northerly cattle station in New Zealand. The runner was met at the cape by the chief lighthousekeeper, Mr R. Sears, and immediately announced his intention to run from John O’Groats to Land’s End in Britain if he could find a sponsor for the trip.—(P.A.)
