Timaru Post Filled
(From Our Own Reporter) TIMARU, May 6. Mr B. E. C. Strathern, aged 34, married with twi children, at present assistant treasurer and assistant town clerk at the Timaru City Council, was selected from 38 applicants at a special meeting of the Timaru Harbour Board today to replace Mr N. de V. Lawrence as secretary-treasurer and chief executive officer of f he hoard, effective in two months.
Mr Lawrence will assume a similar position at the Napier Harbour Board on July 1. Mr Strathern was an emolovee of the Southland County Council until 1953, and the Bluff Borough Council as assistant town clerk until 1956 Then he came to Timaru as chief accountant, and in 1957 was annotated city treasurer. Tn 1962 he became assistant town clerk and assistant city treasurer on the Timaru City Council.
He has been a prominent member of the South Canterbury Operatic Society and Savage Club, and was choirmaster for many years at Trinity Presbyterian Church.
