SUBARUS FOR N.Z.

A small number of 356 c.c. Subaru cars, a model produced by Fuji Heavy Industries, Ltd., of Japan, are due to arrive in Auckland soon. They are expected to sell in New Zealand for less than £6OO, and be the cheapest car on the local market.

Bigger Subaru models, the Subaru 1000, are expected to arrive in New Zealand later in the year. They will cost about £9OO.

The top speed of the 365 c.c. car is 63 miles an hour, and fuel consumption of up to 70 miles a gallon is claimed by the manufacturers. Suspension is all-inde-pendent, and the specification includes such extras as a heater. The air-cooled twocylinder two-stroke engine is mounted at the rear of the car and has a force-feed lubrication system which makes the mixing of petrol and oil unnecessary.

The Subaru 1000 has a heater, windscreen washer and reclining seats as standard equipment, and is a four to five-seater.
