ADDINGTON MARKET Ready Sale For Beef-bred Steers
A draft of beef-bred steers, aged 20-months to two years and a half, from the St. James’s station, met a ready sale at the Addington saleyards yesterday. Totalling 266 head, the cattle were in good forward condition, and sold for an average of £42 3s 6d a pen.
The adult store cattle entry yeseterday numbered 731 head, compared with 421 a week ago. The yarding included more than 250 stationbred cows, most of them already mated, and they met a steady sale. Fatteners throughout Canterbury took a strong interest in the annual draft of St. James Station cattle, the sale opening with the first pen selling for £4B 3s 6d. Twelve pens of the station’s Aberdeen Angus cross steers sold from £3B 3s 6d to £4B 3s 6d, and eight of the pens sold at more than £4O.
