£740 GIVEN BY DEALERS
Minibus For Handicapped Christchurch motor vehicle dealers have given about £740 towards a nine-seater minibus for the Canterbury branch of the New Zealand Intellectually Handicapped Children’s Association. The president of the Canterbury branch of the Motor Vehicle Dealers’ Association (Mr D. A. Nichols) said the branch hoped to have raised enough to be able to hand over the minibus in a month or six weeks. “There are a lot of children who will benefit from this transport,” said the Crippled Children’s Association president (Mr C. H. G. Curragh). It would be used to take children aged three and ovei; to the association's minding centre in Worcester street on Thursdays. The minding centre as well as helping the children’s development, provided relief for parents..’ Run by voluntary staff, it had lapsed recently through lack of transport for the children, and could now be started again.
The minibus would also be used to bring those over the age of 18 who were without transport, to the association’s building for training in various types of work. Mr Curragh said the Canterbury branch of the association was grateful to the Motor Vehicle Dealers’ Association for its generosity and interest over many years.
