(N.Z.PA .-Reuter—Copyright) PRETORIA, May 4.
Abram Fischer, a former leading Johannesburg lawyer, has been found guilty of conspiring with banned African nationalist bodies to commit sabotage—ah offence which carries a possible death penalty. He will be sentenced on Monday. Fischer, aged 58, was found guilty on the main sabotage count and on 14 other charges relating to his leading position in the outlawed South African Communist Party. Mr J. H. Liebenberg, for the State, said Fischer, who is a Queen’s Counsel, had “disgraced and tricked the legal profession.” Fischer’s defence lawyer, Mr Sidney Kentridge, in his final submission, said his client was a very brave man who had acted in accordance with his beliefs.
