WRONGLY PLACED
Talks Today At Gore
“The Press" Special Service INVERCARGILL. Will Hal’s Choice, which finished seventh in the Forest Hill Handicap at the Winton Trotting Club’s meeting on March 26, but was placed fourth by the judge and later promoted to second, retain that placing? This will be decided at Gore this morning at a special meeting convened by the Trotting Conference. Betty’s Song was fourth and should have been the one promoted to second, but her bracketed stablemate, Hal’s Choice, was officially placed fourth by the judge. With both the second and third horses disqualified, Hal’s Choice was promoted to second. This placing was later confirmed and it appeared that it would have to remain in the records although Betty’s Song was entitled to the placing. The Winton Trotting Club will have more than a passing interest in today’s meeting, which will be attended by Mr A. J. Nicoll, and Mr J. Rowley, president and secretary of the conference. The Winton Club has already paid out the second stake of £5O to the connexions of Betty’s Song.
Record Catch.—Fish landings by the Norwegian fishing fleet last year set a record for the country at about 2.1 million tons. The value exceeded £5O million.—Reuter.
