P.M. Expects To Get Test Date
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 2. The Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) said tonight he expected the French Government would give him the date of its nuclear test in the Pacific “some considerable time” before it took place
He had been asked if New Zealand intelligence was trying to find out the date, as France might not announce that the test would be taking
place until a day or so before.
Mr Holyoake said discussions with France had been continuing over a long period. Mr Holyoake said he had not been invited by France to inspect the test site. The president of the Federation of Labour (Mr T. E. Skinner) said recently he had received such an invitation. Mr Holyoake said he had not received a report on possible health hazards from the test. Mr Holyoake had previously called for the report.
