DRINKING BY STUDENTS

Capping Week Warning Warnings that any attempt to repeat last year’s stunt of “drinking a pub dry” would bring severe disciplinary measures by the Professorial Board appeared at the University of Canterbury yesterday. They replaced posters, which appeared and disappeared on Thursday, calling on students again to drink the White Swan Hotel dry. The capping controller (Mr C. A. McVeigh) told the Students’ Association executive that he had removed these posters. The students’ president (Mr J. Anderson) said the University Proctor (Mr P. R. May) and Mr McVeigh had visited the hotel and received an assurance from the proprietor that he also wished to prevent repetition of last year’s episode.
