Pacific Bomb Tests
Sir,—Dr. W. G. Whittleston, a senior dairy scientist, expresses concern that French atomic tests in the Pacific may affect the Japanese market for our dairy products. I assure Dr. Whittleston that the equally important home market could also be seriously affected, as New Zealanders are no more enthusiastic about eating and drinking dairy products loaded with strontium 90 than are the Japanese. Those most likely to suffer are those unable to protest—babies, whose diet depends largely on milk. Perhaps dairy farmers and the Plunket Society could join their protests with those of the Government and support appeals to France and the United Nations on this issue. —Yours, etc., ENFYS M. GRAHAM.
